Monthly Meeting - August - The Braver Angels Approach to Depolarization in the US

Braver Angels is a national, grassroots movement bringing Americans from all walks of life together to help turn down political rancor and strengthen our democracy. We offer carefully designed workshops (and other events) that create a space for productive and respectful conversation across the political divide and reduce our own internal polarization. The focus is on learning to listen with empathy and curiosity about how life experiences have shaped those with sometimes very different ideas to ours, and developing respectful relationships. The key is offering perspectives rather than needing to change another's mind on issues that are important to them. BA also offers a variety of events such as finding common ground on difficult issues, community town halls, and candidate debates.

Speakers:

Robert (Bob) McDuff, Braver Angels Moderator and Ambassador
Susan Rico, Braver Angels Organizer and Ambassador

Human Rights Day 2022- Arts As Activism

  • Founders Hall, Soka University of America (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December — the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The UDHR is a milestone document, which proclaims the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political or another opinion, national or social origin, property, birth, or another status.

This year our chapter, UNA-OC, is celebrating HR day where you will have the opportunity to join Orange County humanitarian organizations and visual & performing artists for a day of art, advocacy, & action with a special presentation about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the works of art gifted to the United Nations by member states.

United Nations Day 2022- Celebration

On October 24, 1945, the United Nations was created. Every year for the month of October, UNA-USA and its 200+ chapters around the country host events celebrating the UN and the tremendous value it brings to our world.

The theme for this year's Gala Celebration Event is "Nourishing Peace", to show how the key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) involving Peace, People, and Planet are completely intertwined with a focus on Goal #2, to end Hunger.

You are invited to come celebrate with us the birthday of our one and only United Nations, and to learn more about the importance of our achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the world. Our mantra to "Think Globally, Act Locally" applies to our own community here in Orange County as we work on helping us face our local issues head-on.

Dinner will be prepared and hosted by members of the local non-profit Kherut, a local leader for Global Goals, which empowers survivors of sex trafficking, domestic violence, sexual abuse, imprisonment, and young women aging out of foster care in a safe and supportive environment. Reserve your seat at the table now by registering HERE.
